Medical Massage is result oriented and the treatment is specifically directed to address conditions that have been diagnosed by a Physician. The therapist may use a variety of modalities or procedures during the treatment, but will focus the Medical Massage treatment to relate to the diagnosis.
All massage treatments at Health in Hand start with an interview to generate a complete health history and assessment. This is key for several reasons. I need to determine whether or not massage is appropriate and beneficial to your condition. I also need to learn what current treatments you’re employing, so we are working in conjunction with those treatments. It’s important to see your whole health picture, both currently and historically, so that I can understand how those events are impacting you. This way I can come up with a comprehensive treatment system to meet your goals effectively.
The goal of medical massage is to ease discomfort in both body and mind.
Chronic conditions are often accompanied by depression and anxiety and it is the whole person that is treated, not the disease or illness. Because of this whole body treatment approach, medical massage has been proven effective in addressing conditions such as: cancer, edema, dysmenorrhea, fibromyalgia, migraines/headaches, hypertension, digestive conditions, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, neuralgia, Bell’s Palsy, chronic fatigue, PTSD, depression and anxiety.
Your treatment plan is tailored to your needs.
Some conditions involve only a few treatment sessions and then the client can maintain on their own. Other conditions may require maintenance sessions. Each client is unique and the treatment plan is discussed after the initial session and reviewed regularly.
Techniques employed may include myofascial release, integrative stretching, active engagement, nerve mobilization techniques, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques, manual lymphatic drainage, CranioSacral techniques, and other advanced therapeutic techniques.
